Description: This class is a hands-on lighting control basics course using WattStopper Controls. Students will learn the fundamentals of dimming controls, line vs. 0-10v, occupancy controls, daylighting controls, and WattStopper’s DLM network wiring and basic programming, including emergency control functions. Lessons will include safety, code, and Title 24 related to lighting controls.

Description: The Fire Alarm experience class will focus on the installation of a basic Fire Alarm system. Students will learn the history of early fire warning systems to modern day Fire communication installs. This experience will prepare you for real world installations happening in the field today. Electrical Vehicle Charging Systems (EVCS) Course #SM 105

Description: This class meets online briefly on the first and last night, via Zoom Video Conference, for details about beginning and completing the coursework. The class also meets for a three-hour class session two weeks into the class to review the Code Calculations in Lesson 4 of the coursework. The course follows a self-guided curriculum on a Learning Management System which cover all aspects of electric vehicle equipment including the vehicles, charging stations, electrical vehicle supplies, NEC requirements, advanced load calculations, site assessment, troubleshooting and commissioning of electric vehicle charging stations. Following the completion of the coursework, the certification test will be offered in-person at the school following the last day of class.

Introduction to Cable Splicing Training Course #SM 108

Description: This is a one-day introductory class for the year-long, two-semester Medium-Voltage Splicing class. In this course students will be introduced to the syllabus for the course and will discuss the main topics, layout, and objectives of the course. The instructor will also discuss the expectations and commitments required by students. Students will learn about the various tools, splicing methods, and testing equipment they will be introduced to, and the lab work that will be performed. Students will hear about the Product Specialists slated to come introduce their products and certify students to install their equipment. The instructor will also discuss the safety (NFPA 70E) and code (NFPA 70 NEC) related to Medium-Voltage splicing that will be covered as well.
Fiber Optic Training Course #SM 109

Description: This class will cover Fiber Optic training for the construction industry, including safety and code. There is a prerequisite for this class that students must complete prior to the in-person dates indicated above for this course. Students must complete approximately 16 hours of online training prior to the In-Person portion of the class. Once payment is received, the instructor’s email will be provided, and the instructor will be available for guidance with the online coursework. For the In-Person portion, students will have 24 hours of hands-on training including the history, current use, and future of Fiber Optics in construction. Learn how to install, terminate, inspect, and test Fiber Optic cable using Corning termination kits and Fluke meter testing equipment. There will be a certification test at the conclusion of the course. With successful completion of the written certification test and demonstration of the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the hands-on work, students will be awarded the Fiber Optic Associations "Certified Fiber Optic Technician" certificate. Be advised! There is a non-refundable $100 certification fee. The certification is good for 3 years.

Students will learn the advantages of PLCs and will be introduced to programming, wiring, and troubleshooting using the PLC trainers in our lab. Students will learn the basics of PLC operation, including what analog and digital inputs are, and how this combination of hardware works to achieve the modern style of control systems which can be integrated into the Building Management Systems that we see in nearly every building in today's world. In this class we will be writing programs, uploading them onto the PLC and you will be able to see how they operate. You will be required to bring your own Windows-based laptop.

Description: This is a year-long, two-semester course, that requires students to commit to attending the entire year-long class. In this course students will be introduced to medium-voltage conductor types, wiring methods, and the parts and equipment for medium-voltage splicing. Students will benefit from learning various types of splicing methods while practicing in the lab. They will learn to use a variety of metering equipment, as well as other Electrical Safety (NFPA 70E) and code (NFPA 70 NEC) associated with this work. Product specialists will speak with the class and offer certifications to relate their equipment. Upon completion of the course students will be prepared to work with Medium-Voltage Splicing crews.
